-blessing or a curse to lose track of time?
My youngest is visiting for a few days. And since I haven’t been able to start working again, and she has been jumping from country to country and city to city for the last three months, we sometimes wake up and ask each other, What day is it today? And this writing’s title is at her suggestion 🙂
One would think how lucky it is to be able to stay home and just have fun.
But at my age, it gets to a point where my brain batteries are in need of a recharge. Yes, I enjoy my hobbies, volunteer and travel when possible and, most importantly, enjoy my freedom.
But… and there is that infamous “but”… how do I feed my brain so it keeps functioning properly?
I refuse to watch the news constantly. There is no need. The mostly bad news repeats in cycles. Why do so many people get stuck on these?
I am mostly up to date with world events, but I don’t think there is a need to watch the earthquake devastation and the suffering of my fellow humans over and over, nor the political debacles of this country and others, the homicides, the abuse, the… Well, the list is long.
The point is, why watch it over and over?
I certainly don’t want to affect my mental health, especially now that I am feeling a bit fragile.
This not being productive and helpful, and of course not making money, is making me anxious. I am not happy about it.
I am not at retirement age, and I am living out of my savings. My children reassure me that I should not worry so much about money, that my retirement fund is good enough to keep me going until I am much older!
Oh gosh… I am deviating from the subject of this note.
As I was saying, there is a lot to do in my life. I can definitely be busy. I also have my first grandbaby’s birth to look forward to, as a main event.
I just don’t know what is going on.
Books go through my eyes like short stories that I confuse with the next one. I am trying to watch fewer series and movies, and my self-taught pottery—with the help of some online clips—is coming along. I will likely paint again.
But there is something missing.
Could it be that the difficult task of finding a new job is bringing me down?
Or is it just aging and realizing that my brain needs more challenges?
Whatever it is, I hope I can figure this out fast.
Soon.
Snap!
So, these days, I wake up, do some yoga stretching, grab a quick protein-type breakfast, go for a walk with my pup, come back to my pottery, have lunch, watch something (two episodes or a movie), get back to home stuff, cleaning, calls, etc.; go out for another walk, read, wonder…
Then someone texts and asks what time I will be leaving for the party or HH or X event.
And I ask: What day is it today?

A few samples of what I’ve been making with clay. I haven’t yet figure out what style I’d like to pursue… I just like variety right now 😉
